Science needs to improve early detection of mesothelioma

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (UMM) is a rare lung disease, and aggressive, which is closely linked to the previous exposure to asbestos fibers. Difficult to diagnose the disease and resistance to conventional treatment options since then, for the first time as a separate type of lung cancer.

Asbestos was widely used in the industry for decades, mesothelioma has a latency period is too long-can take up to 50 years in its victims. Many cases are just starting to appear among those who worked in those industries. This is why the number of cases and is expected to continue to increase around the world for years to come from 30 to 40.

Doctors around the world are putting increasing energy and dollars for research to find better treatments for mesothelioma. Recent study has focused on several new indicators (natural substances within the body and regulations) which have proved useful in helping to diagnose a malignant tumor. Officials from the European Organization for research and treatment of cancer (competition) and the Faculty of the Department of Oncology in General Hospital in Marseille, France, banded together to report on the current status of scientific information for malignant pleural mesothelioma.

There is a lot of information about diagnosing the disease once symptoms have begun. Mesothelioma, such as lung cancers, unfortunately often not suspected at later stages when symptoms become more severe. At this point, the doctors are less able to deal with it in ways that may extend the life of the patient. The report says that the more valuable for helping patients (early) predictive biomarkers. Treatment at an early stage so far was more effective in prolonging survival times, if not change the long-term prospects for this devastating disease.

The authors urge researchers start doing more widely in order to validate the value of various biomarkers. They propose that research efforts focused on finding biomarkers that will predict how well chemotherapy will work with mesothelioma. They urge that the researchers, rather than investigate the theoretical ideas, should start doing clinical trials that focus on translating information into practical applications that will make a difference to patients.

If you have Mesothelioma, you live with the devastation of losing your life, or a loved one. It may be useful to see if you can become a victim to this disease because of corporate misconduct. Many employers intentionally concealed their knowledge of the risks of exposure to asbestos fibers from workers who lived and breathed every day of their careers. And because it can lead to a very small dose of asbestos Mesothelioma or asbestosis, asbestos workers ' families may also be at risk. Asbestos dust brought home on the clothing can be just as deadly to family members who breathed it.
